Training
Well, managed to get the first training session under our belts on Wednesday, just a little 4.5k to start with, though we're gonna need to up the distance if we're gonna be ready for the 10k in 44 days' time! I was feeling a little achy on Wednesday night, though felt ok for a little cycle yesterday, and we're off training again later on.
Also, my Cancer Research pack came through today:
So I now know that I'm number 818, and I've got my t-shirt and a whole host of other gubbins.
If you haven't sponsored me yet, please go to my fundraising page: http://www.10ksponsorme.org/mh10k, the total has been steadily rising, and now stands at £52.50. You can pay by credit or debit card, it's fast, free and simple, and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Pre-training session 2
Today I went for my second pre-training session. I took a shorter route than Thursday, on account of the feeling in my legs (not painful, but I could still feel that I'd been out on Thursday), and the fact that this was a non-stop route, rather than to uni and back with a stop in the middle. I was also worried about not being able to start training proper next week if my legs were hurting too much! Once again I was battling a little against the heart monitor, which kept telling me my heart rate was too high (just to prove I really am unfit), even on the flat stretches, but then complained that it wasn't high enough as soon as I started going downhill! It's all a bit unfair, but I'm sure I'll pick up a few good breathing techniques to help me....
The sponsorship form is now online, and I was pleased yesterday to receive my first donation from my friend Kim! That takes me to £10, and it seems a long way to £100, but I'm sure we'll get there in the end.
Feel free to leave a comment below, I appreciate all your support!

Sponsor Me!
My online sponsorship page is now set up. I would like to raise £100 for Cancer Research (and not just because they'll send me a free towel if I do), but to do so I need your help.
Please visit my sponsorship page at http://www.10ksponsorme.org/mh10k, and make a donation. All donations are secure and sent electronically to Cancer Research UK. If you are a UK taxpayer, Justgiving will add an automatic 28% bonus to your donation at no cost to you!
I really appreciate your help, please leave your messages of support by adding a comment to this page. Oh, and tell your friends that I'm doing this, and get them to sponsor me!

10k run
It's a bit of a random decision, but I've decided to run the Cancer Research UK 10k run at Castle Howard, York on October 8th with my friend Jenny.
She said to me last year that I should run the half marathon with her, and I said she was completely crazy, that I wasn't fit enough...However, I've managed to lose some weight, and now I'm getting motivated to get fit, and in order to do so, I need to set myself a challenge. Now, getting prepared for the 10k seems to be a good way to start relatively gently (and as it's a charity event, there will be slow people walking at the back, so I won't finish last!!!).
As a further bribe, I've invested some money in a gadget to force myself to train, so as to not waste the money. It's a heart rate monitor, which records your heart rate over your training sessions, and then you can upload the data to the internet to follow your progress.
So, yesterday I went for my first little run, and today I'm not feeling too bad...but we'll see, maybe later on I'll be in agony. I just hope that Jenny goes gently on me...
As soon as we're officially registered, I'll post details of my sponsorship page at Just Giving.
